Locked in mortal battle, the two men fought. John wrenched free of the Watcher’s grasp. Dear Lord, help me! Help me destroy him!
His outstretched fist hit something solid. A fallen candlestick, its flame barely flickering. John spied the duvet, the other candles… they were near the fire pit. For our Lord is a consuming fire.
In an instant, the image of him playing his palm over a candle flame seared across his consciousness. Several feet away, the Watcher stumbled to his feet.
John snatched the duvet. A quick flick of the candlestick and the poly-linen caught fire. Hungrily. Energy blasted through John’s body. A fire goeth before him... Though his finale would not be as planned, he would avenge his son. Fulfill Jimmy’s destiny.
The Watcher charged, kicking the candlestick free.
Jimmy’s face flashed through his mind. ...and burneth up his enemies round about. John threw up his arm, gripping the blazing blanket like a matador.
The Watcher yelped. Backed off, hands up for protection.
John flicked the burning cloth. Burning embers cascaded through the air. “Come on, hellhound! What’re you afraid of?”
Agents of age-old enemies, the two slowly circled one another. Seeking an opening.
“You’re alone, aren’t you?” John crowed. “The beast of darkness has abandoned you!” John shot forward.
