Chapter 40
7:31 p.m. Good Friday, April 2, Passion Ministry
John sat alone in the concert hall, whispering under his breath.
It was early evening. The police were finally gone. Oscar and he had given preliminary statements regarding Brendan’s death and his alleged terrorist activities. The police had confirmed that the FBI recognized the young man as a member of a violent anti-abortion splinter group.
Oscar slumped down beside John. In a daze. I shot and killed Brendan! He couldn’t believe it. Nor that the brash producer was an assassin and would have murdered John in cold blood.
The image of Brendan on stage, face angry and distorted, kept flashing through his mind. Not only that, he had allowed Virginia Darrow and her photographic equipment into the Ministry.
Oscar buried his face in his hands. He’d been so weak. So vain. He had failed in his duty to protect John and his son.
A moment later, tears slipped through his long fingers.
Jimmy’s dead.
