“No!” John shouted, holding his unconscious boy. He was numb and overwhelmed. Once more they were trying to take Jimmy away. I’ll never see you again. “Please, Andy! Don’t let them. He’ll be a freak in a circus!”

The ambulance attendants backed away. Darby howled.

“No, John,” Andrew replied. “This time he’s got to go. He’ll be all right. This is for Jimmy’s sake. No one will know who he is. He’ll be safe, trust me.”

John and Andrew“Please, John!” Maggie implored. “He’s in a coma.”

“Oww…” John cried out as Andrew jabbed his shoulder with a hypodermic needle. John’s world dimmed.

“Grab him!” Andrew commanded.

Lids drooping, John watched as Jimmy was rolled away. He was losing his son and didn’t have the strength to object.

After the attendants left, Andrew and Maggie put John to bed.

“Come on. He’ll be out for a while.” Andrew said. “Let’s step outside.” He glanced down, noticed vomit on his tie and sighed. “Be there in a minute.” He popped open his medical bag and dug inside for a clean tie.
